Puglia In Spring, Summer and Autumn.( written by our local Agent and friend Maxine Wilkinson)

A great time to have cosy evenings besides our log burning stove, whilst exploring Puglia

May/June (cherries are in season) and September/October (figs. walnuts & prickly pear ).Fantastic times to visit

I am sitting outside in the  sunshine with my glass of wine noticing that the ivy has turned red and the persimmon and quince trees are heavy with fruit.  The humidity of summer has passed and we now have wonderful blue skies and fresh, warm sunshine.  Next month the nets are spread for harvesting the olives, the weather gets a little fresher and all the small towns start decorating their piazzas and streets with beautiful Christmas lights.  Every town in this area reveals a surprise - Lecce, the secret baroque city of southern Italy, the baroque 'centro storico' of Martina Franca, the caves of Castellana Grotte, the castles of Conversano and Oria, the archaeological site of Egnazia, the dramatic location of Polignano a Mare and the trulli of Alberobello.  After Christmas the weather gets colder for a couple of months; sometimes we even have snowfalls.  Then spring arrives and the whole area is covered with poppies, the lanes are full of wild flowers, the cherry trees are in blossom and the sun shines warmer. When visiting in the winter months just wrap up warmly and maybe bring an umbrella!   Every day is market day in one of our small towns - marvellous bargains  - particularly clothes, handbags and shoes and a vast array of fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts straight from the land - no preservatives, no additives!

Visit in the autumn, winter or spring months when there are very few tourists, everywhere looks more attractive and you will be assured of an interesting holiday.
