Leucate Village

Leucate is a uniquely situated friendly traditional French village and is the ideal place to spend a brilliant holiday. The beautiful wide sandy Mediterranean beach is 10 mins walk or cycle ride.away.

Leucate is renowned for it’s water sports, therefore there are many activities locally and places of interest to visit within 2 hours drive. such as Barcelona, Collioure, Carcassonne, Narbonne, Perpignan or Font Romeu.  A short walk from our villa in Leucate you will find lots of restaurants and cafes (at least 10), all differing in style, ranging from reasonably priced to high-end cuisine. They provide a range of local specialities such as the local fish, fruits de mer, tapas, oysters and moules et frites.   

There are also many shops in Leucate village including a supermarket, several boulangerie, boutiques, gift shops, newsagents, delicatessen, butchers and a twice weekly market.

Most importantly for all wine lovers the village has various wine shops and the village  winery (Cave co operative) offering a wide selection of quality local wines at great prices. Wine tasting is always on offer.

 

A short stroll will take you to the village’s historic chateau which has dramatic views of the vast Leucate Etang and its oyster beds,it is brilliant for a picnic. Alternatively you can take a short walk along the falaise (the cliffs tops) towards the light house and on to the next village of Le Franqui, on the walk you will be amazed by the spectacular views of the beaches, cliffs and headland.

If you follow the coast road you will arrive at Leucate Plage and Port Leucate with magnificent views of the Pyrenees Mountains.

Leucate Plage has wide sandy beaches, which are sheltered by the cliffs and served by 3 local restaurants. This is a great place to sample the plate du jour at lunch time or relax by the Mediterranean sea with your favourite book.

Port Leucate is a marina which has clothes shops, souvenir shops and a market once a week.This is an ideal place to stop and have a coffee while watching the coming and goings of the numerous yachts.

 

Just off the costal road are the Oyster Sheds where you can sample the famous local oysters and mussels, fresh from the lake, with a glass of Leucate rose, a local delicacy not to be missed.
